Obituary for MARION PARK (Harris)

PARK, MARION JEAN “MARJEAN” (nee Harris)

On January 10, 2023, Marjean died peacefully in Toronto in her 93rd year. Beloved wife of the late Ronald William Park, loving mother of Randy (Nora Cullen) and Eileen (George MacDonald), proud grandma to Peter and Cameron MacDonald.

Marjean was born and raised in Vancouver, the daughter of Ewen Harris and Marion Harris (Cameron).  She attended Kitsilano Secondary School, where she helped plan decades of Class of 1948 reunions.  Marjean trained to be a teacher at the Vancouver Normal School and taught primary school until she got married in 1955.

Marjean loved her life in Vancouver: singing, gardening, fishing, sailing, teaching Sunday school, working in the woods on Bowen Island, raising Shelties, and trailer travelling across the country - all with the love of her life, Ron.  Marjean was an avid crafter: batik, sewing, stained glass, fabric arts, knitting, crocheting and weaving.  She was always curious and open to new ideas.

In 2018, we were delighted that Mom decided to move to Toronto, in order to spend more time with her children and grandchildren.  Both of her paternal grandparents were born in Ontario, and we often joked about her “coming home” to Ontario, even though Vancouver remained her favourite place.

We would like to extend our sincerest thanks to all the staff at Del Manor Prince Edward, and Mom’s amazing caregivers from Home Instead who assisted her through her final years.

Friends will be received on Friday, February 10th from 7 – 9 p.m. at the G.H. Hogle Funeral Home, 63 Mimico Ave., Etobicoke.  Memorial service on Saturday, February 11th at 2 p.m. in the chapel, followed by a reception.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the CNIB.  If you are unable to attend the service in person, please join us via live stream at https://us06web.zoom.us/j/86541286910.
